A research from Kings College,
London, has asserted that in the three decades to come, the number of the women
suffering from lung cancer will see a three-fold increase while
it will take them ahead of the men with the disease in next 10 years only.
As per the findings, the number of women will
rise from 26,000 presently to 95,000 in 2040. Whereas, the number of men will
rise from 39,000 to 42,000, a mere 8% rise in the same period. That means, by
2040 men with the deadly disease will be half the number of women with it.
Surging
rates are supposed to be caused by the tobacco intake in the form of smoking by
the women, which is claimed by their manufacturers a way to stay slim. Lung cancer is most common cancer in women other
thanbreast cancer and bowel cancer.
It is also considered deadliest of all.
The
illness has reported to take 35,000 lives each year in
Britain. It has been found that the rates are stabilizing in men unlike the
women in whom the rates are increasing at a fast pace. It is
predicted that a total of around 137,000 will suffer from the disease by 2040.
Often overlooked, lung cancer has recently emerged as the leading
cause of deaths across the world.
